SASSA’s First Give to the Max Day #GTMD19

In 2019, Science and Social Studies Adventures (SASSA) began the process of applying for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. During this period of transition, we will work with Propel Nonprofits who will mentor us and act as our fiscal sponsor to ensure we can take advantage of major fundraising events. This is great news because Minnesota’s biggest fundraising day is just around the corner! November 14th to be exact!

What Is Give to the Max Day (#GTMD19)?

Give to the Max Day was created in 2009 to launch GiveMN, a collaborative venture led by Minnesota Community Foundation and many other organizations committed to helping make Minnesota a better place.

That initial spark touched off an outpouring of generosity — $14 million in 24 hours. Since then, Give to the Max Day has become an annual tradition. Every year thousands of organizations and individuals generate donations and excitement for Minnesota causes that are working to improve the quality of life for all Minnesotans.

More About GiveMN

GiveMN (an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization) links donors with organizations that are working to make Minnesota a better place. Its online giving website, GiveMN.org, enables charitable giving any time and any place, allowing people to donate with ease and enthusiasm. GiveMN brings innovation, energy and fresh ideas to Minnesota generosity.

What This Means for Our Community

Over the past four years, SASSA has connected over 8,000 K-12 students in the Twin Cities metro with over 50 local collegiate researchers to explore various topics in science and its impact on current issues affecting us today, such as climate change. By working with experts in various fields, K-12 students begin to see how they can also be catalysts for positive change in their community. We are able to work with these students because of the support we receive from school districts and our partners.

We are growing rapidly and regularly receive requests by educators to come into new schools and districts. In order to expand our impact, we need to equip our staff and volunteers with tools that will enable them to successfully serve more students. The tools for curriculum building and module creation include salaries and professional fees, licenses, a computer, a printer, teaching supplies, and module props used by the students in the classroom.

By working with Propel Nonprofits, SASSA will be able to participate in Give to the Max Day, the state’s most popular fundraising day! By giving on November 14th, 2019, you can make it possible for SASSA to reach more K-12 students and schools. Your contributions help us empower more students. Please partner with us by donating through our fundraising page on GiveMN (https://www.givemn.org/story/Sassak12begins). Need more information about SASSA?
