Last week, Google announced the 2018-2019 winners of its annual Science Fair. This annual competition is open to students between the ages of 13 and 18 who want to think up solutions to some of the world’s greatest problems.

This year’s grand prize winner, Fionn Ferreira, developed a method for removing microplastics from water using ferrofluids. His findings could have a major impact on our drinking water since the technology could be incorporated into wastewater treatment facilities, and therefore, help the world’s oceans which are drowning in plastics.
